Tough competition from dubbing movies

'Saval machi’, ‘Kolai veri’, ‘Kooli padai’ and ‘Mayana boomi’ are usually different Tamil film titles. But by looking at these titles everyone can find out that all these are Hollywood movies title dubbed in Tamil.
In early days, dubbed movies used to just come and go but now they are giving a tough fight to original Tamil movies.
‘Harry potter’ and ‘Transformers’ which released last year are in the list of super hit movies. 10000 BC which released this year is a huge success all over Tamil Nadu. What is the reason behind the sudden success of dubbing movies?
Graphics and good locations along with gripping background music are the reason for catching the attention of the Tamil audience. The movies such as ‘Harry potter’ ‘James bond’ and ‘Spiderman’ are all from big banners. These dubbing rights in Tamil cost from 50 Lakhs to 75 Lakhs. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ which released last year was sold for 1 crore. Small movies cost 5 Lakhs to 10 Lakhs. The dubbing cost is only 2Lakhs to 5Lakhs. One reason for the success is producing companies in the Tamil Industry purchase and releases the dubbing movies. Thamis kalai puli production, Ramanarayan’s ‘thenambal films’ are specialized in doing the dubbing work.
 On asking Bibbin Hansa about this Hansa pictures has released more that 50 dubbing pictures has released direct Tamil pictures but we concentrate only on the dubbing films reason the fans are more interested in dubbing films . The risk in releasing dubbing movies is less. We have a small percentage of loss when small movies don’t do well but, when big movies are a hit we make double the money. An another distributor said that the dubbing of the Hindi movie ‘Jodha Akbar’ did not do well in here. Similarly, even many Telugu movies are not doing well in Tamil Nadu.
Other language movies don’t impress the mass as Hollywood graphics or Hollywood action movies do; so steps are being taken to dub Hollywood graphics and action movies in Tamil.
